Anyone who has ever set foot in the Solvay lair has come out a changed person. Moved, astounded, distraught or awestruck, but in any case marked by a strong inward emotion.
Belgian artist Denis Meyers fills 25.000 m2 of the former Solvay head offices in Brussels with intense and very personal statements. Supposed to last three months, the cathartic project turned into an 18 months pharaonic artistic work, visited by over 20.000 people.
The book relates the entire project, from the initial sketchbooks to the complete destruction of the site. It offers a broad overview of the artist’s work process, psychology, extracted relics,… as well as a complementary historical part on the building’s heritage. It is organized in twelve separate sections, marked by different photographic approaches and paper choices.
